Dungeon Crawler Session Part 2

Loosely based on the Forest of Shadows Campaign. Starter format but the beginners encounter limit of 4. No Quests, just trying to exhaust the Dungeon Deck. Card names underlined. All mistakes are mine and the Designers are not held responsible. The choice of AM and PM turns is mine.

You may recall that the town council of Servid had advertised for a “valiant” group of adventurers to clear a neighboring dark and savage forested region to finally bring some peace and security to the town’s populace. Four adventurers responded to the advertisement: the Gold Dwarf Warrior (GDW), the Keldorman Cleric (KC), the Keldorman Pyromancer (KP), and the Gypsy Thief (GT).

STATUS – 6 days into the forest. 1/3 of the way through the Dungeon Deck. GDW 1 wound, no other party members wounded. Marching order is GDW, KC, KP, and GT bringing up the rear.

Day 7 AM – Continuing to search deeper in the forest the party entered an ancient Graveyard, and found a second Evil Altar, apparently unguarded. Puzzled as to where the evil worshippers were, a second altar probably meant Bad Luck for the party.

Day 7 PM – The group explored the Graveyard and avoiding the Evil Altar as much as possible. No opportunity to ambush worshippers occurred because no creatures appeared.

Day 8 AM – The group decided to take one last look at the Evil Altar only to trigger a 20’ Pit Trap that the GDW fell into. Only his Defensive Training prevented him from serious harm. Feeling that the GDW needed a break from leading the party, the KC decided to Adjust Marching Order and take point himself.

Day 8 PM – Now leading the group, so the still slightly shaken GDW could recover completely, the KC was surprised by the speed of a Deadlander Mercenary and rooted to the spot. The mercenary was followed up by a large and lumbering Ogre. It fell to the GT to leap forward with a Striding Strike to kill the Deadlander Mercenary and bedazzle the Ogre with his quick movements. The Ogre retreated temporarily but did not go far and the group was sure it would attack again in the AM.

Day 9 AM – With Quickness the KC was better prepared for the return of the Ogre, however, it brought reinforcements; a Goblin Thief, a Goblin, and another Goblin Thief. The KC swung his mace to Cleave not only the Ogre but also the Goblin in one mighty blow. One Goblin Thief used the opportunity to stab the KC wounding him before escaping, while the other Goblin Thief stole a Backpack from the party and made off quickly.

Day 9 PM – The Gloom of the afternoon was made worse by a particularly long Dark Corridor (2) the party was forced to travel through the dense forest and undergrowth. It was along the narrow path that this time the KC, rather than the previously unfortunate GDW, fell into a 10’ Pit Trap while being attacked by a lurking Goblin. The GT feeling quite the Champion from the earlier battle with the mercenary, used his Combat Training to dispatch the Goblin threat and the combined efforts of all three prevented the KC from any serious harm from the trap. Worn down a bit by the steady pace of combat the group fell into a deep sleep without setting a watch

Day 10 AM – As a result, the party was abruptly woken in the morning by a pair of Archaic Slaughs, tainted guardians of the land. The GDW and GT leapt to the attack and were able to kill one. The KP cast Phase and the second Archaic Slaugh was unable to wound the KC and drifted back to the edge of the clearing in the woods, then disappeared but the party felt it would soon be back.

Day 10 PM – But it was not the Archaic Slaugh that returned but another Goblin Thief and Goblin in the company of a Jungle Troglodyte and Zombie. Using his Combat Training the KC removed the Zombie threat while the GT with a Striding Strike killed the Goblin Thief and stunned the Jungle Troglodyte. The GDW and KP held off the Goblin long enough for the party to overcome the creatures’ defense and finish off both.

Day 11 AM – As the party broke camp and started into the forest they were Ambushed by a Phantom and Wild Naga. The gaze of the Naga had several serious effects. The GDW was enfeebled and dropped a Backpack and the KC was pinned in place, unable to respond. The GT used his Defensive Training skills to hold off the attack until the party could mount a coordinated charge that dispersed the Phantom and killed the Wild Naga.

Day 11 PM – The KC while still dazed from the dreaded gaze of the Wild Naga was set upon, in a particularly wet part of the woods, by two Jungle Troglodytes and a Leaf Vodyanoi. The Leaf Vodyanoi was content to make off with one of the KP’s staves (STAFF). The GT was able to kill one of the two Jungle Troglodytes but the other bit the KC for a wound and injected the KC with a terrible poison which during the night caused another wound.

Day 12 AM – Although badly wounded, the KC remained in the lead until the party reached a clearing and found a Massive Animated Tree standing at the other side. Guarding the tree was an Ogre and Skeleton. The GDW insisted to Adjust Marching Order for the party’s attack and personally led the charge across the clearing. He instructed the GT to help Cure Wound on the KC in case he, the GDW. should fall in battle. Rather than his longer spear, the GDW used his Short Sword to duck under the Ogre’s long arms and managed a vicious stab to the heart, killing the Ogre instantly. Almost immediately he fell wounded from a branch swipe by the Massive Animated Tree that stuck him from behind but fortunately also broke the Skeleton into many pieces.

Day 12 PM – The Massive Animated Tree branches Rushed through the air with incredible speed, allowing no time for skilled combat. The KP stepped forward to act as a Shield Ally for the fallen GDW and cast Flaming Fury on the Tree, resulting in a wound to the tree from so many branches catching fire. Brave though the deed was, the KP was also struck and thrown to the ground wounded from the Tree’s furious assault.

STATUS: GDW 2/4 (2 wounds out of a total 4 Life points), KC 2/4, KP 1/3, GT 0/3. Four fifths of the deck exhausted as the party is tantalizingly close to clearing the forest and earning the town of Servid’s gratitude and reward. Wounded, tired, and locked in a battle with an evil tree of the forest that may rage through the night…….. to be continued

You might've been able to boost Cleave to take out a gobbo thief here, not positive though. Once the Ogre and regular Goblin were gone, the Goblin Thieves become viable targets.

Phase only prevents damage from harm attacks, the Archaic Slaugh deals Supernatural. So she would've gotten through.

Yes, but my KP was especially talented and learned to cast Phase that also avoided damage from SuperNatural causes. The training took place at the Unseen Academicals.
