Yesterday we picked up the Booster Box and after sorting all the cards I started deck building today.

I made Standard decks. The Dungeon had a Labyrinth/Graveyard theme and the Crawler was equipment heavy, focusing on weapons, armour and ways to unlock adventurers due to traps.

I have tried a couple of games, and the poor party is getting slaughtered! Granted, I'm used to a 65 card deck but I've put multiple copies (never more than 4) of the cards I think I'll need most often.

So, I come asking for advice about building the Dungeon deck. I tried to get a variety of card types and costs while staying with the theme. I thought that would offer enough variety for the encounters. Instead I've created a deadly and bloody dungeon that eats adventurers for breakfast.

How do the rest of you building the Dungeon deck? Any rules of thumb or general things to consider when building the deck?

Any and all advice is welcome!

I really hope I don't have to redo my deck, as I really do love the theme. My adventurers just need to stop dying! :waits:

Ok, you asked for it!

Here is my Labyrinth/Graveyard Dungeon, version 1:

Characters:

2 Ghouls
2 Large Wurms
4 Skeletons
4 Zombies
2 Phantoms
2 Gargoyles
4 Gravaxian
1 Archaic Slaugh
1 Slime
1 Mummy
2 Ogres
4 Giant Grey Spiders
3 Minotaurs
2 Infernal Minotaurs
4 Kobolds
2 Lamia Anguine

Events:

1 Recurring Villain
1 Reinforcements
2 Unlucky
2 Bad Luck
2 Ambush
2 Rushed
2 Broken Formation

Terrains:

2 Labyrinths
2 Evil Alters
1 Graveyard
2 Dark Corridors

Traps:

4 Dart Traps
4 10' Pit Traps
4 Falling Stones
2 Fire Stream Rune Traps
2 Spear Traps
2 20' Pit Traps
1 Pendulum
1 20' Spiked Pit Trap
1 Damsel

After writing it out, I think I've way overpowered the dungeon, but I had to fill the deck with 80 cards. Anyway, there you go.

Are you getting slaughtered by Traps?

Boosted Fire Steams (2) and Falling Stones (x4) are bruuuutal with Area Effects. I see the Labyrinth and Kobolds are there to boost traps.

Advice: put in Moving Search, Resourceful, Very Resourceful to remove or tie up the Traps. Acrobatics will help if you have it too.

Otherwise, this should not be a too brutal dungeon, it does take some getting used to the larger decks, once you do adapt, you'll find that the starter is a cake walk! :)

I have all those cards you have suggested in my Crawler except for Acrobatics because I don't have that card.

I picked cards that would help with all the traps. I may have to just streamline my Crawler. :)

And thanks for the Advice! :D

How is your damage prevention and recovery working for you? Like Brawling, Defensive Training, Cure Wounds or Heal Serious Wounds?

I have brawling and defensive training in my deck. I don't have any healing spells as I thought I'd try a low-magic deck.

I've stocked up on armour and skills/tactics that allow me to negate damage, etc.

I checked my deck and found I didn't have any Very Resourceful cards (which is weird because I was sure I put them in). I took out cards that weren't that useful and put in the Very Resourceful.

I will be attempting my trap-filled dungeon again.

Wish me luck!

This time, I beat the dungeon by completing two quests!

There were some very tense encounters and my lead adventurer did take wounds, so it wasn't too easy. :eee:

I did get some good draws and my plan for the equipment worked - load up on Backpacks and other cards that allow me to reclaim equipment from the Grave. Recovered Treasure saved my butt! Naturally, having the Thief helped.

I'm happy with the Dungeon deck, but with 40 Characters it does make completing the Den of Evil quest doable. I may reduce the number of Characters and throw in some more events to make it a little harder.
